We have 7 floodlit tennis courts (3 astroturf and 4 tarmacadam).

If you are new to the sport, coming back after a period of absence or simply moving into the area then please do not hesitate to contact the Club; we can suggest activities appropriate to your level of ability. The club provides a great variety of playing opportunities for all.

As an LTA tennis mark and club, we are active within the British Tennis Scheme. You can join British Tennis for free as a club member and if you “opt in” you will be entered into the annual LTA Wimbledon Ballot draw.

The Tennis Boxes are coordinated by Alan Peak-Payne. They continue to thrive with many more competitive players battling it out for that top spot in their Box.

We typically have up to 90 competitors which is about a third of the club’s tennis playing membership. Over 100 matches each month are usually played. The boxes also act as a landing spot for newer members to get them playing tennis quickly and meeting other club members. There are presently 14 boxes, catering for all levels with up to 18 boxes last year.

Pleasingly also we’ve seen several of Redland’s top women players enter the boxes and competing into Box 1 and Box 2.  We have recently introduced a ‘Women’s Only Box League’ available of course only to women!

To join the Boxes please register your interest at Reception stating your standard so that Alan can place you in the most appropriate box.

Redland Green Club has teams entered into men’s, ladies, mixed, junior and senior leagues in a variety of local and national leagues

Many new members tell us that the reason they choose to join the club is because of our high achievement in the league tables. We can’t recall a time when both our ladies and men’s 1st teams who are represented in the 1st division.

The Winter league runs from October to March and is usually played on Sunday mornings.  Matches consist of 2 men & 2 ladies, playing a single-sex doubles and then one mixed match, best of 3 sets.

Match practice

Match Practice continues to take place on Monday evenings from 6pm -10pm throughout the year.

Our two main in-house tournaments are organised by Scott Dobson, one of our experienced coaches. He runs an American Doubles tournament four times a year. It’s a social evening of fun but competitive tennis, open to all our members.

The Club Championships start in the spring and run through into the summer, culminating in the finals day. In 2024 this is on 10th August. This is a very well supported annual event with self organised fixtures for singles, doubles, mixed doubles and juniors.

We run regular six week adult coaching courses for both beginner and intermediate levels. Please click here to see the current availability and to book. Contact us if you’re looking for 1-1 coaching.

We also offer two weekly drop in sessions for adult intermediate players. Click here to see our weekly timetable.

Social tennis is a great way to meet other club members.

“I LOVE THE CLUB SOCIAL SESSIONS AS IT GIVES ME A CHANCE TO MEET OTHER CLUB PLAYERS AND ALSO PRACTICE WITH SIMILAR LEVEL PLAYERS”

Sessions are held as follows:

Tuesday 1.30pm-3.30pm – Club Social Play
Wednesday 6pm-8pm – Organised Adult Social Club Play
Friday 1.30pm-3.30pm – Club Social Play
Sunday 4pm-6pm – Club Social Play

The sessions on Tuesdays and Fridays are drop in sessions, all ages and abilities welcome! Players will be paired with a partner, play 8 games and then teams will be mixed up. These are great practice sessions and an opportunity to meet other club players!

2023 saw a massive increase in attendance at the Wednesday evening social tennis sessions with up to 45 participants. Scott Dobson runs the first hour of these sessions offering a friendly greeting and is generous with tips on how to improve your game. The sessions have fostered many friendships and groups often stay until late socialising, eating and drinking after play.

Scott also passes on names to the league captains for them to contact players thus increasing the number of competitive players. He also recommends the 6 week intermediate coaching sessions to those who are rusty as an excellent refresher. This works very well and we’ve gained many new members in this way.

The Sunday Social Sessions are also increasing in popularity with a regular 12 keen attendees.
See our timetable pages for more information.

Some helpful tips for enjoying your social tennis

  1. Members can attend all social sessions free of charge.
  2. Please turn up at least 5 minutes before the session start.
  3. Please respect the organiser’s decisions. We strive to give everyone balanced games, but it’s not always possible. Sometimes you might be playing with people of a stronger or lesser standard.
  4. When walking to your court, please wait silently by the side of the court until the point being played is finished before crossing either alongside the net or across the back of the court. This policy also applies to players wanting to access court 7 walking alongside court 3.
  5. If you need to retrieve a ball from another court in play, please wait until their point has finished to avoid interrupting their game.
  6. Everyone was new here once. Please help new members while they learn the ropes.
  7. And finally, our most important tip – have fun!

Along with the main mixed Tennis Boxes we have established a Women only Tennis Ladder. Members can of course play in both or either as appropriate.

The Women only Tennis Ladder has been created in part to encourage existing and newer members to participate in competitive singles games, if not feeling ready yet to get stuck into the main boxes where competition can be fierce. It also allows for players to arrange matches to meet players that they otherwise may not.

The Ladder system allows participants to pick and choose a larger selection of opponents to play against, which also gives greater flexibility on time and availability. It’s easier to arrange than getting four together for doubles.

Matches are self arranged and are a single set only with a tie break at 5 all,  scored the same as the main boxes.
